Frohe Stätten, da ich mir Kränze wand,
Euch verlass' ich, noch eh die Sonne schwand --
Wund am Herzen muss ich im fremden Land 
       Sterben.

Leb', o Erde, lebt wohl, ihr Freunde mein! 
Traute Brüder, nun muss geschieden sein!
Freund- und freudlos reis' ich ins Land hinein.
Klagt mich Armen, den euch die heisse Pein
       Hinrafft. 

Wieviel Blumen Hyblas Gefilde trägt,
Wieviel Blätter Dodonas Eichwald hegt,
Von wievielen Fischen das Meer sich regt:
Soviel Wunden Liebe dem Herzen schlägt
       Grausam.
