Efterdønning

I Vredens Stunder, i Stormens Stunder;
Naar Skyerne flagre, naar Grenene knækkes,
Saa knejser min Nakke, og Vingerne vokse,
Som skulde de aldrig stækkes.

Saa hvælves mit Bryst for hver sejrrig Tanke,
Jeg hører mit Hjerte Triumftakten banke,
Og jeg gaar om Bord paa den flyvende Planke,
At erobre den nye Verden.

Men Bølgen falder. Î Stilhedens Stunder,
Naar Læben er presset om Bitterhedssukket,
Saa kommer min Musa og bringer tilbage
De Kranse, som ikke blev plukket.

Og er der end Torne blandt Kransenes Blade,
Hendes Øjne skinner saa ærlige, glade,
Og hun vogter min Sjæl for at mistro og hade ;
Og jeg selv er den nye Verden.
