La mer, de vague en vague, descend de l'horizon, 
et tandis que le vent descend de dune en dune, tantôt 
sur la mer, tantôt sur les dunes, Phébé glisse sa 
traîne et monte et redescend. 

Écoute sans causer la musique si frêle qu'égrène 
sur les dunes la lune avec sa traîne, et comprends 
sans causer la musique des dunes, dont se berce la 
mer et se berce la lune. 

Si dans cette harmonie ta voix trouble en nos âmes 
un silence plus cher que l'âme, et si tu penses n'entendre 
dans le soir qu'un inutile bruit, sons la haine 
pour toi de l'heure qui s'enfuit.
