by Paul Heyse (1830 - 1914)

Rausche, Brunnen, rausche du
Language: German (Deutsch)
Rausche, Brunnen, rausche du,
Singe mir das Herz in Ruh'!
Könntest du die Flammen kühlen
In der Nacht, der sommerschwülen,
Mir im Nu
Aus dem Blut das Fieber spülen!

Rausche, Brunnen, rausche du!
Was ich sinne, was ich tu',
Wie die Stunden leer sich dehnen,
Zuckt und zehrt in mir das Sehnen
Immerzu -
Öl ins Feuer sind die Tränen.

Jetzt wohl aus dem kleinen Schuh
Schlüpft ihr Fuß und geht zur Ruh'.
Und nun liegt sie wach im Bette:
«Ach, daß ich ihn wiederhätte!» -
Herz, und du
Zerrst dich wund an deiner Kette!
