Mutterlieb' sorget, Mutterlieb' wacht
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Sicher in's herzliebe Vaterland!
Schaukelt es leise! Schaukelt es sacht!
Mutterlieb' sorget, Mutterlieb' wacht!

Mutterlieb' sorget, Mutterlieb' wacht!

Mutterlieb' sorget, Mutterlieb' wacht!

A mother's love is anxious, a mother's love keeps watch
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Surging waves, upon heads of foam
You carry a ship, as upon fluffy down --
Rock it softly, rock it gently,
For it holds my only child!
Bring it safely to the homeland shore,
Safely into the beloved fatherland!
Rock it quietly! rock it gently!
A mother's love is anxious, a mother's love keeps watch!

Blowing winds, in teasing play --
Waft caressingly round the masts, play about the keel:
Where the jagged reef lurks treacherously, --
Guide the ship happily past it .
Drive it softly, drive it gently --
For in it rides my only child!
Only blow quietly! only blow mildly!
A mother's love is anxious, a mother's love keeps watch!

Shining stars, when into the flood once more
Has dipped the sun's fiery glow,
Shine on the course, for my child follows it!
Shine and shimmer, lovely and mild.
Shining and clear -- a countless host --
Pour your radiance over land and sea!
With singing dispel the dark of night!
A mother's love is anxious, a mother's love keeps watch!
