by (Stephanie) Hélène Swarth (1859 - 1941)

Boschvijver in den nazomer
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
De blanke pijlers van de grauwe brug
Zijn witte spoken in de schemering.
De zwarte boomen staan in tooverkring.
De vijver glimplekt, koud metalig stug.

Gelijk een sneeuwvlok drijft een zwanerug.
Een late vogel klaagt met vreemd gezing. •
Mijn hart klopt zwaar, of wanhoop mij beving.
Ik durf niet verder, 'k durf ook niet terug.

't Is me of ik eeuwig zoo zal blijven gaan,
In bleeken schemer, zonder zon of maan,
In treurend grijs van zoel nazomerweer

En enkel hooren 't smartebang gezing
Van d'éenen vogel, als de erinnering
Aan hoop verloren zonder wederkeer.
