Is dit een nacht, licht is het om ons henen
mijn dunkt, mijn lief, wij leven in den dag 
ver in de tuin klinkt nachtegalenslag
't is mij zoo wèl, of 'k droevigblij moet weenen.

Maar àl mijn teerheid tintelt in mijn lach
àl wat mij maakte droef is nu verdwenen
een nieuw geluk is in mij opgeschenen
en ik geniet zoo stil als ik vermag

't Is nacht en dag en tijd van schooner leven
wat is de schoon, ik wil U alles geven,
en heel mijn leven neigt uw leven toe.

Gij maakt mij sterk, die eenmaal was zoo moe.
Wat is dat schoon, vereend met U te streven, 
't is me of ik denkend, groote daden doe.
