So viele, die wandern und schiffen, und kommen doch endlich ans Ziel; ich spannte all' meine Segel und stehe doch immer noch still. Drei Monde vollbracht' ich die Reise, seit ich stieg in den schwankenden Kahn; es drehet mein Schiff sich im Kreise, nicht Wind oder Welle rührt's an. Ich sehe das blaue Gebirge, das Schloss mit dem schimmernden Dach, ich höre die rufenden Stimmen, erleuchtet so Saal als Gemach, und glühen im Abendschimmer, und wie eine Braut so schön; es will mich kein Strom dahin tragen, und will mich kein Wind dahin weh'n.
Note for stanza 2, line 4 provided by Bertram Kottmann: the Carl Banck score has "erleuchtet so Saal als Gemach", but this may be a misprint for "erleuchtet sind Saal und Gemach". We will update this page when we find a publication with the original poem.
