by Franz Ferdinand, Freiherr von Dingelstedt (1814 - 1881)
Translation

Sonst und jetzt
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the German (Deutsch)
Sonst in trauter Dämm'rungsstunde,
wenn der Mond zog durch die Weite,
saß ich still an deiner Seite,
Hand in Hand und Mund auf Munde.

Heil'ge Ruhe in der Runde,
und des Himmels Sterne glühten;
Funken stoben, Küsse sprühten,
Herz an Herz im schönsten Bunde.

Jetzt in stiller Dämm'rungsstunde
sitz' ich am Kamine wieder,
doch die Funken sind verschwunden,
statt der Küsse strömen Lieder.

O ihr süßen Dämm'rungsstunden,
ach, auf ewig nun verschwunden!
