O weine nicht, wenn scheidend dich begrüßet
der Sonne liebelächelnd freundlich Bild;
wie Blütenkelch mit diesem Gruß sich schließet,
so schließ den Kelch, aus dem die Träne quillt,
und weine nicht, [o]1 weine nicht!

O weine nicht, es bringt der junge Morgen
mit seinem Hoffen neue Lebenslust;
verzage nicht und leg' die bangen Sorgen
in Gottes Hand und eines Freundes Brust,
nur weine nicht, nur weine nicht!

O weine nicht, es kommt der Tag der Freude,
der allem Schmerz und [Gram]2 ein Ende macht;
nicht ewig währt die Nacht, und jedem Leide
ein tröstend Licht im Glanz der Zukunft lacht,
