Wie bist du traut, wie bist du süß, du liebe Abendzeit
wenn junger Liebe Paradies sich wonnefluthend beut;
umfange mich mit deinem Duft, mit deiner holden Pracht
und flüstre durch die stille Nacht: mein Mädchen, gute Nacht!

Das Leben reizt, das Leben glüht, es flammt der Sterne Licht,
die Welle treibt, die Wolke zieht, und Treue Kränze flicht;
ich bin allein, kann sie nicht seh'n, die mich so glücklich macht,
möcht' Well' und Wolke mich verstehn, ihr sagen: gute Nacht!
