by Vasile Alecsandri (1821 - 1890)
Translation by Josef Wiedemann (1828 - 1919)

Herzenswunsch
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Romanian (Română)
Wollte Gott herniedersehn
gnädig auf mein heißes Flehn,
mir ein Kindlein schenken sollt',
engelrein und süß und hold!

Tag und Nacht wollt' ich es herzen,
mit ihm spielen, mit ihm scherzen,
Nacht und Tag in froher Lust
wiegt' es sanft an meiner Brust;

Wollt' es hüten über All
und es küssen tausenmal;
flüsterte ihm leise zu:
schlumm're ein in süßer Ruh'!
