from Volkslieder (Folksongs)
Translation by Wilhelm Rudow (1858 - 1899)

Wer ein echter Heldenjüngling
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Romanian (Română)
Wer ein echter Heldenjüngling,
Bleibt zur Nachtzeit nicht zu Haus;
Ohne Palasch und Pistolen,
Nackter Hände zieht er aus.

Wer ein echter Heldenjüngling,
Rosenrot das Angesicht,
Nackter Brust zieht er zum Kampfe,
Fürchtet Feindeswaffen nicht.

Und sobald ein Wort gefallen,
Hei! beginnt der blut'ge Reigen;
Feinde fallen wie die Äpfel
Oder Birnen von den Zweigen.
