Det glitrer i Morgenstunden
fra Sierra Nevadas sne,
høit over Middelhavet 
skyder dets glødende bræ.

Jeg kan ikke tro mine øine, 
jeg tror, at jeg ligger og drømmer,
men føler [hvor]¹ blodet hidsigt 
sammen [mod]² hjertet strømmer.

Jeg tror, at jeg ligger og drømmer 
det deiligste eventyr,
som svinder saasnart den triste 
høstmorgen gråner og gryr.

Aa Gud, lad mig altid drømme 
og lad det aldrig bli morgen.
Lad mig drømme bort hele livet 
og kviden og gråden og sorgen!

Les neiges de la Sierra Nevada
brillent aux heures du matin,
loin au-dessus de la Méditerranée
s'avance le flamboyant glacier.

Je ne peux en croire mes yeux,
je crois que je suis couché et que je rêve,
mais je sens combien mon sang est ardent,
à l'unisson de mon cœur qui déborde.

Je crois que je suis couché et que je rêve
ce délicieux conte de fées
quand d'un coup disparaît la triste
aube grise d'un matin d'automne.

Ô Dieu, fais-moi toujours rêver,
et ne fais jamais des matins de plomb.
Fais-moi rêver toute ma vie, débarrassé
et des tourments, et des larmes, et des chagrins.
