by Wilhelm Valentin Christian Pfeiffer (1810 - 1841)

Der Mond in der Fremde
Language: German (Deutsch)
Sprich, bist du derselbe Mond,
Der daheim am Himmel thront?
Der des Abends oft so traut
In das Stübchen uns geschaut,
Wenn wir dicht beisammen faßen
Unter Plaudern, unter Spaßen?

Ach, der Mond,
Er war mein Freund.

Aber wenn ich dir ins Auge seh,
Schlägt mein Herz so bang und weh.
Mutter, Schestern, Jugendspiele,
Und der Fremde eis'ge Kühle
Dringen jetzt beim Mondenschein
Herzzersprengend in mich ein.
Bist wohl nicht der gute Mond,
Der am Heimathshimmel wohnt!

Confirmed with Jugendklänge von W. V. C. Pfeiffer, Dr., Göttingen: Kübler'sche Buchhandlung, 1835, page 95.
