Skjønt hun vil som et Luftsyn vige,
dersom jeg saadan tale tør -:
jeg elsker dig, du blonde Pige,
gjemt i din Yndes hvide Slør.
Jeg elsker dine Drømmeøjne,
der gaa som Maaneskin paa Sne
og sænke sig, hvor Skove højne,
i noget Gjemt, jeg ej faar se.

Jeg elsker denne ædle Pande,
fordi den staar saa stjerneklar
og spejler sig i Tankens Vande
og ved dog ikke, hvad den har.
Jeg elsker dette Haar, som flokker
sig bagom Nettets travle Baand;
lig Mythens Amoriner lokker
det paa mit Øje og min Haand.

Jeg elsker denne Form, som gynger
i Takten af sin Brudesang,
den Kraft og Livslyst daglig synger
udaf sin unge, dunkle Trang.
Jeg elsker denne Fod, som bærer
en saadan Sejrens Herlighed
igjennem Ungdomsmodets Sfærer
imod den første Kjerlighed.

Jeg elsker denne Haand og Læbe,
de to i Elskovsgudens Pagt,
ved hvem han rækker Prisens Æble,
men hvem han ogsaa har paa Vagt.
Jeg elsker dig, jeg maa det sige, --
endskjønt du ej et Bogstav tror,
men flygter, svarer, ingen Pige
tør dvæle ved en Digters Ord.

Elle s'échapperait comme un souffle d'air
si je lui disais avec sécheresse :
« Je t'aime, toi, fille blonde,
cachée sous le voile blanc de ta grâce.
J'aime tes yeux rêveurs,
qui vont comme le clair de lune sur la neige
et se baissent où s'élèvent les forêts,
sur quelque secret que je ne peux voir.

J'aime ce noble front
car il est aussi clair que les étoiles
et il reflète l'eau des pensées,
éloigné pourtant de ce qu'il contient.
J'aime ces cheveux, qui s'amassent
sous les fils  d'une résille ;
pareils aux amours mythiques ils attirent
sur eux mes yeux et ma main.

J'aime ta figure qui se balance
en rythme de son chant nuptial,
chaque jour, tu chantes ta force et ta joie de vivre
nés de tes jeunes et vagues désirs.
J'aime ce pied qui porte
avec le courage de la jeunesse 
ce charme victorieux
vers son premier amour.

J'aime cette main et cette lèvre,
toutes deux parties du pacte du dieu de l'amour,
auprès duquel se gagne la pomme en trophée,
mais qui aussi en fait bonne garde.
Je t'aime, je peux le dire,
même si en fin de compte tu n'en crois pas un mot,
mais fuis et réponds qu'aucune fille
n'oserait s'occuper des paroles d'un poète. »
