Die Glocken rufen um Mitternacht; Die Sehnsucht ist großäugig aufgewacht Und redet sacht. Sie wandert in Nächten und ruht am Tag - Ihr Herz hat einen fiebernden Schlag, Daß ich tief erschrak. Sie ist wie ein irregewandertes Kind - Um die Stirn trägt sie ein Dornengewind, Und schluchzt und sinnt. Nun ward so ruhelos mein Heerd, Da sie um Mitternacht eingekehrt, Und mich weinen gelehrt.
