Wiedersehen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Dir war bitt'rer nie zu Muthe,
Was du Süßes auch gesprochen!
Und du bist ja doch nicht glücklich,
Und dein Herz ist doch gebrochen.

Wenn auch lächeln deine Lippen,
Mir dein Unglück stolz verhehlend,
Tief in deinen Kinderaugen
Seh' ich ja dein ganzes Elend.

Sei nicht stolz und leg' versöhnlich
Deine Hände in die meinen!
Wollen uns ja nicht mehr lieben --
Wollen nur zusammen weinen.

Weinen, daß es so gekommen!
Doch kein Vorwurf, keine Klage
Schwirre mit dem finstern Fittig
Ob der Asche alte Tage.

Confirmed with Pessimisten-Gesang (an anthology of poems), Minden i. W.: J. C. C. Bruns' Verlag, 1884, page 43.
