Landskab

En vidtstrakt Hede med mossede Sten,
Lidt blinkende Vand i det Fjærne,
En gulhvid Stribe hvor Solen gik ned,
En eneste skælvende Stjærne.

Og sælsomt susende Aftenens Vind
Saa langeligt sukkende aander,
Som kæred mindeligt i den en Sjæl
For jordiske Veer og Vaander.

Da Solen vaagned, vel tusende Haab
Strøg fremad paa dristige Vinger;
Hvem véd, om ikke den sukkende Vind
De Saare og Stækkede bringer?

Hvem véd, om ikke de samle
Sig her som Fugle ved Efteraarstrækket
Og prøve: haver end Vingerne Kraft,
Mon eller er evigt de stækket?

Og mange kende sig langst paa Gled
Ad Dødens forstummende Strømme;
De andre letter i Flok efter Flok
At læges i Menneskers Drømme.

Paysage
Language: French (Français)  after the Danish (Dansk) 
Une vaste lande avec des pierres moussues,
Au loin une eau légèrement scintillante,
Une bande jaune clair là où le soleil s'est couché,
Une seule étoile tremblotante.

Et étrangement le vent du soir
Bruisse et souffle et soupire avec langueur,
Comme un cœur doucement brisé
devant les douleurs et les peines terrestres.

Quand le soleil se leva, mille espoirs
S'avancèrent sur leurs ailes hardies ;
Qui savait si le vent ne leur apporterait pas
En soupirant, blessures et amputations ?

Qui savait, si ceux qui se rassemblent ici
En bandes, comme les oiseaux à l'automne,
S'ils n'essaieraient pas la force de leurs ailes,
Ou s'ils seraient amputés à jamais ?

Et beaucoup s'étaient mis depuis longtemps en route
Vers le fleuve silencieux de la mort ;
Les autres se dispersent bande après bande
Pour être guéris dans les rêves des hommes.
