by Julius Karl Reinhold Sturm (1816 - 1896)

Der schlafende Engel
Language: German (Deutsch)
Nur aus der Liebe
Erblüht das Glück,
Zieh' von den Brüdern
Dich nicht zurück.

Und ob sie dir auch
Oft weh gethan,
Schließ immer enger
Dich an sie an.

Es schläft ein Engel
In jeder Brust,
Den du aufsuchen
Und wecken mußt.

Er ruht verborgen
Oft tief in Nacht,
Und böse Geister
Stehn um ihn Wacht;

Doch weckst du muthig
Den Engel auf,
Fliehn sie von dannen
In scheuem Lauf.

Er aber dankt dir,
Vom Schlaf erwacht,
Und preiset mit dir
Der Liebe Macht.
