Ich möchte wohl die liebe Sonne sein,
  Für keinen strahlen, als für dich allein;
    Nicht in den Wäldern, nicht auf dem See,
    Sondern allstündlich in deiner Näh'.
  Ich schiene nur in deine Fensterlein, --
  O dürft' ich doch die liebe Sonne sein! 
Ich möchte wohl ein kleines Vöglein sein, 
  Mein Lied erklänge immer durch den Hain;
    Nicht durch die Fluren, nicht auf dem See,
    Sondern allstündlich in deiner Näh'.
  Ich sänge nur in deine Fensterlein --
  O dürft' ich doch ein kleines Vöglein sein!
