Wie glänzt nun die Welt im Abendstrahl,
Und [ihre]1 Wolken so goldig schön!
Wie glühen die Fernen, wie duftet das Thal,
Und die schimmernden, schlummernden Seen!
 
Und wie jauchzet [das]2 Herz, wie tönt und rauscht
Im Busen der goldne Gesang!
Wie steh' ich verwandelt, wie schau' ich berauscht
Die leuchtende Welt entlang!
 
O wachse [du]3 fort, du Schwingenlust;
O du schwellende Lebensglut!
[Seit diese Brust an Ihrer Brust]4,
Seit Mund an Mund geruht!
