Es kommt ein Schiff, geladen
Bis an den höchsten Bord;
Maria hält das Ruder,
Der Engel steuert es fort.

Maria, Gottes Mutter,
Gelobet mußt du seyn!
Wir waren All' verloren,
Ohne dein lieb Kindchen fein.

Maria, Gottes Mutter,
Gelobet mußt du seyn!
Verehrte Königinne,
Du Licht der Engelein.

Maria, Gottes Mutter,
Wie reicht dein Lob, so weit!
Es kann kein Mensch beschreiben
Deine große Ehrwürdigkeit.

Auf einer stillen Woge
Kommt uns das Schiff an's Land,
Es bringt uns reiche Gaben;
Ein Sohn ist uns gesandt.

Möcht' ich das Kindchen küssen
Auf feinen rothen Mund;
Dazu trag' ich Gelüsten,
Deß würd' ich werden gesund. --

Es kommt die stille Nacht; 
Nun ruht, ihr müden Hände,
Das Tagwerk ist vollbracht. 

Du aber, Seele, ringe
Dich von der Erde los, 
Und werde leicht und schwinge
Dich auf in Gottes Schooß. 

Hinauf mit Glaubensflügeln,
Die Liebe fliegt voran, 
Wo über dunkeln Hügeln
Der Himmel aufgetan.
