Repos sur le chemin ardu, moment de halte, Paisible gravité loin du monde moqueur, Profond silence où l'on s'entend battre le cœur, Où l'âme dans le vide indéfini s'exalte... Tiédeur du vieux foyer, aux premiers soirs d'hiver, Dans le charme soudain rappris de la famille ; Lumière de la lampe innocente, qui brille Sur la page encor blanche où vont fleurir les vers... Ô toute la douceur, ô toute la bonté De l'heure calme où meurt la colère et l'envie ; Ô charme étrange et simple, ô vague de la vie Où l'ennui lentement devient de la beauté...
