1. Epiphania

Ik droomde van een trage karavaan
die over 't effen wit der zandwoestijnen
uit Oosterlanden, zonder stille staan,
naar 't Westen toog waar Christus moest verschijnen. 

De rijkgehulde kemels stapten aan 
en olifanten torschten baldakijnen 
van purper... en ze bleven, bleven gaan
Tot ’s avonds toen de zonne ging verdwijnen 
 
Het nachtlijk deemstren doofde alles-dood.
Dan hield de maan verbaasd haar  bleek gezicht, 
ineens, op de onverroerde zee van zand gericht,

en schrok... Drie mannen in haar spooklicht, groot
als goden uit Egypte, in wit gewaad
ten hemel heffend armen en gelaat...
