5. Einladung zur Martinsgans  [sung text not yet checked]

Language: German (Deutsch)
   Simon Dachs Zeitvertreiber. 1700.
Wann der heilge Sankt Martin
Will der Bischofsehr entfliehn,
Sitzt er in dem Gänsestall
Niemand findt ihn überall,
Bis der Gänse groß Geschrey
Seine Sucher ruft herbey.

Nun dieweil das Gickgackslied
Diesen heilgen Mann verrieth,
Dafür thut am Martinstag
Man den Gänsen diese Plag,
Daß ein strenges Todesrecht
Gehn muß über ihr Geschlecht.

Drum wir billig halten auch
Diesen alten Martinsbrauch,
Laden fein zu diesem Fest
Unsre allerliebste Gäst
Auf die Martinsgänslein ein,
Bey Musik und kühlem Wein.

Text Authorship:

  • from Volkslieder (Folksongs) , "Einladung zur Martinsgans", appears in Des Knaben Wunderhorn
