A nap letette arany-koronáját,
s tüzet rakott a Mátra tetején.
Ott piheni ki égi fáradalmát
az erdős Mátra kéklő közepén.

A lomb nem mozdul. A fűszál is áll.
Kertemben ér az estéli homály.
Alant a völgyben csöndbe halt a lárma.
Érzem az álmot, mint száll fűre fára.

S tengerként árad, nő a lágy homály.
Fölötte csak az Esti-csillag áll.
Az tartja az ég barna fátyolát,
a földnek éji árnyéksátorát.

Álmodom-e, hogy itt van a tavasz?
A kályha mellett róla álmodunk,
pedig a tél künn csendesen havaz.
s pelyhes a hótól minden ablakunk.

De nem, én mostan mégsem álmodom:
ibolya van a kerti asztalon;
enyhe az est; illatos a virág;
virágzó fák közt kél a holdvilág.

A földön az éj sötét fátyola,
s a fák az éjben mind fehérlenek:
ruhájuk talpig csipke-pongyola,
s a csipkék közt ezer gyémánt remeg

Fehér erdőn fehérlő holdvilág,
fehéren égő örök csillagok,
mi szép vagy te fehér álomvilág!
Öledben én is csak árnyék vagyok.
