Eines Meeres in dem Sand?

Immerhin! Mich wird umgeben
[Gotteshimmel]1, dort wie hier,
Und als [Totenlampen]2 schweben
Nachts die Sterne über mir.

serà el lloc del seu darrer repòs?
Sota les palmeres del sud?
Sota els til·lers prop del Rin?

Seré, en algun paratge del desert,
enterrat per mans estrangeres?
O reposaré a la costa 
d’un mar dins la sorra?

En qualsevol cas, estaré envoltat
per el cel de Déu, tan aquí com allà,
i com llànties funeràries, a la nit,
les estrelles suraran al meu damunt.

 Lang ist heut der Winterabend,
Und ich möchte bei dir sein,
[Bei dir sitzen, mit dir schwatzen]1,
Im vertrauten Kämmerlein.

  An die Lippen [wollt']2 ich pressen
Deine [kleine]3 weiße Hand,
Und mit Thränen sie benetzen,
