Im Walde bin ich unterwegs Und halte fleißig Schritt Mit dem geschwinden Morgen, Der nimmt mich als ein Bruder mit. Den Mittag seh ich heiß und schwer Im gelben Kornfeld stehn, Er sieht mich ohne Weile Vorüber und landeinwärts gehn. Und wenn der stille Abend kommt, Will ich am Ziele sein, Will wie der Tag verglühen, Geliebteste, am Herzen dein.

El dia obre els seus ulls frescos, el món resplendeix, embriac de rosada, a l’encontre d’una llum novella que l'envolta amb una àuria esplendor. Estic de camí pel bosc i diligentment mantinc el pas amb el rabent matí que em porta amb ell com un company. Veig el migdia, calorós i feixuc, en un falb camp de blat, em veu passar sense aturar-me i prosseguir vers els camps. I quan arribi el vespre tranquil, vull haver assolit el meu intent, vull anar-me apagant com el dia, estimada, a prop del teu cor.
