1.  [sung text not yet checked]
by Rudolf Weinwurm (1835 - 1911), op. 34 no. 1 [ ttbb quartet or chorus and piano ], Leipzig: F.E.C. Leuckhart

1. Blessed Peace
Language: English
Upon your heart, divine maiden, How I may rest so deeply happy, As if the grief and sorrow of life Had forever died within me! Now I know, lovely one, how I once felt At my mother's breast; Ah! from out of your eyes, how The bliss and joy of childhood shines for me! The old sound, so silvery bright, I have heard it anew; Have seen anew the clear well-spring That flows fresh through the garden of Eden! But suddenly in the midst of the joy I must ask breathlessly Whether such lofty felicity is not too great For an earthly bosom [to bear]? -- Take joyfully that which your God offers you, And continue to trust him with new courage: For today you have experienced How you shall someday rest in Heaven!
