1.  [sung text not yet checked]
by Franz Wilhelm Abt (1819 - 1885), op. 445 (Sechs Lieder) no. 6 [ voice and piano ], Offenbach am Main: J. André

1. God and my song
Language: English
God and my song, the two of them Are my comfort and my refuge, Therefore, until parting, I remain So joyful on and on. To Him who gave me the song, I gladly give it back, Therefore, such abundant, sweet happiness Continues to blossom for me in life! And when sorrow comes along, I trust in my God, Who, if I become fearful and anxious, Can even make hell into a byword; He who never yet deceived, Who however long the night lasted, Under the rainbow of peace Has bestowed upon me the most beautiful song! God and my song, the two of them, That shall be my watchword, And when I must depart from here, They shall still be mine up yonder! If everything should someday vanish, Nothing shall move my goal, To stand before God's throne With the music of my harp.
