German (Deutsch) translations of Six Songs, opus 55

by Adolph Martin Foerster (1854 - 1927)

1. Love's philosophy  [sung text not yet checked]
by Adolph Martin Foerster (1854 - 1927), "Love's philosophy", op. 55 (Six Songs) no. 4
Language: English
The [fountains mingle]1 with the River
  And the Rivers with the Ocean,
The winds of Heaven mix for ever
  With a sweet emotion;
Nothing in the world is single;
  All things by a law divine
In one [another's being]2 mingle.
  Why not I with thine? -

See the mountains kiss high Heaven
  And the waves clasp one another;
No sister-flower would be forgiven
  If it disdained its brother;
And the [sunlight clasps]3 the earth
  And the moonbeams kiss the sea:
What [are all these kissings]4 worth
  If thou kiss not me?
