Catalan (Català) translations of Four songs, opus 26

by Alexander Frederic von Hessen (1863 - ?)

1. There be none of Beauty's daughters  [sung text not yet checked]
by Alexander Frederic von Hessen (1863 - ?), "There be none of Beauty's daughters", op. 26 (Four songs) no. ?, published 1935 [ voice and piano ]
Language: English
There be none of Beauty's daughters
  With a magic like thee;
And like music on the waters
  Is thy sweet voice to me:
When, as if its sound were causing
The [charmèd]1 ocean's pausing,
The waves lie still and gleaming,
And the lull'd winds seem dreaming:

And the midnight moon is weaving
  Her bright chain o'er the deep;
Whose breast is gently heaving
  As an infant's asleep:
So the spirit bows before thee,
To listen and adore thee;
With a full but soft emotion,
Like the swell of Summer's ocean.

1 Mendelssohn: "charm'd"

by George Gordon Noel Byron, Lord Byron (1788 - 1824)
1. Cap de les filles de la Beutat
Language: Catalan (Català)
Entre totes les filles de la Beutat
no n’hi ha cap tan encisadora com tu;
i com música damunt les aigües
sona la teva dolça veu per a mi:
com si el seu so fes que l’oceà
encisat es calmi,
les ones restin quietes i lluminoses,
i els vents adormits sembla que somien:

i a mitjanit la lluna entrellaça
la seva rastellera brillant damunt la fondària,
el pit de la qual puja i baixa plàcidament
com el d’un infant que dorm:
així l’ànima s’inclina davant teu,
per escoltar-te i adorar-te;
amb una plena però suau emoció,
com les ones d’un mar a l’estiu.
