Ein Rosenstrauch, wer sagt,
In welchem Garten?
Sie sind erlesen schon,
Denk' es, o Seele!
Auf deinem Grab zu wurzeln
Und zu wachsen.

Zwei schwarze Rößlein weiden
Auf der Wiese,
Sie kehren heim zur Stadt
In [muntern]1 Sprüngen.
Sie werden schrittweis gehn
Mit deiner Leiche;
[Vielleicht, vielleicht noch eh']2
An ihren Hufen
Das Eisen los wird,
Das ich blitzen sehe!

¿sabe quién en qué bosque?
ya verdea un rosal 
¿quién dice en qué jardín?
Escogidos ya fueron, 
piensa en ello alma mía,
para estar en tu tumba 
y echar allí raíz.

Dos caballitos negros 
pastan en la pradera,
con su brioso trote 
a la ciudad regresan.
Cuando tu caja lleven, 
sentando el paso irán;
Antes de que sus cascos 
pierdan,  acaso,
las herraduras esas 
que veo relumbrar.
