Und sein schlummerndes Licht über den Rasen [streut]3,
  Und die Nachtigall flötet,
    Wandl' ich traurig von Busch zu Busch.

Selig preis' ich dich dann, flötende Nachtigall,
Weil dein Weibchen mit dir wohnet in Einem Nest,
  Ihrem singenden Gatten
    Tausend trauliche Küsse giebt.

[Überhüllet]4 von Laub, girret ein Taubenpaar
Sein Entzücken mir vor; aber ich wende mich,
  Suche [dunklere Schatten]5,
    Und die einsame Thräne rinnt.

Wann, o lächelndes Bild, welches wie Morgenroth
Durch die Seele mir stralt, find' ich auf Erden dich?

    Bebt mir heisser die Wang' herab.

Quan la lluna d’argent llueix a través del matossar
i escampa la seva llum somnolent damunt l’herbam,
i el rossinyol refila,
jo camino trist de matoll en matoll.

Aleshores penso que feliç ets, rossinyol que refiles,
perquè la teva companya viu amb tu en un niu
i al seu company cantaire li fa
milers de besades sinceres.

Embolcallats de fullatge, un parell de coloms parrupen
davant meu llur encís; però jo em giro d’esquena
cercant ombres més fosques
i vesso una solitària llàgrima.

Quan, oh imatge somrient que, resplendent com l’albada
travessant-me l’ànima, et trobaré en aquesta terra?
I la llàgrima solitària,
tremolosa i més ardent, cau per la meva galta.

Der Sängerin.

Ich höre bang'
Im düstern Gang
Der Nachtigallen

El rossinyol 
canta a tot arreu,
damunt verds rebrolls,
les millors tonades
ressonen per el bosc
i els ribatges.

Moltes parelles joves
van allà, on clar
remoreja el rierol
i s’hi queden escoltant
amb alegre goig
el cantaire.

En un llòbrec passatge
jo també sento amb ànsia
ressonar el cant
del rossinyol;
car, ai! tot sol
erro per el boscatge.

Die mein [Jünglingsherz]1 bezwang,
Wandelt durch die Haine.

Röther [blühen]2 Thal und Au,
Grüner wird der Wasen,

Maienblumen]3 lasen.

Ohne sie ist alles todt,
Welk sind Blüt' und Kräuter;
Und kein Frühlingsabendroth
Dünkt mir schön und heiter.

Encisador sona el cant dels ocells,
quan l’àngel pur
que ha conquerit el meu jove cor,
passeja per el boscatge.

Les valls i les prades floreixen més vermellenques,
l’herba esdevé més verda,
allà on els dits de la meva dama
cullen les flors de maig.

Sense ella tot és mort,
marcides les flors i l’herbam;
i cap posta de sol primaveral
em semblaria tan formosa i serena.

Fidel dona estimada,
no vulguis mai fugir;
a fi que el meu cor, com aquesta prada,
pugui florir en la joia!
