Von der Tafel rinnt der Wein, Alle Kerzen flackern trüber, Wieder bin ich denn allein, Wieder ist ein Fest vorüber. Traurig lösch ich Licht um Licht In den still gewordnen Räumen, Nur der Wind im Garten spricht Ängstlich mit den schwarzen Bäumen. Ach, wenn dieser Trost nicht wär, Müde Augen zuzumachen...! Und ich fühle kein Begehr, Jemals wieder aufzuwachen.

De la table coule du vin, La lueur de toutes les bougies est plus trouble, Je suis donc à nouveau seul, À nouveau une fête est finie. J'éteins tristement les lumières Dans les salles devenues silencieuses, Seul dans le jardin le vent craintif parle Avec les arbres noirs. Hélas, que n'y a-t-il la consolation De fermer mes yeux fatigués, Et ressentir le désir De de ne plus jamais se réveiller.

Hände, laßt von allem Tun, Stirn vergiß du alles Denken, Alle meine Sinne nun Wollen sich in Schlummer senken. Und die Seele unbewacht Will in freien Flügen schweben, Um im Zauberkreis der Nacht Tief und tausendfach zu leben.
