Spätherbstnebel, kalte Träume,
überfloren Berg und Tal,
Sturm entblättert schon die Bäume,
und sie schaun gespenstig kahl.

Nur ein einz'ger, traurig schweigsam
einz'ger Baum steht unentlaubt,
feucht von Wehmutstränen gleichsam,
schüttelt er sein grünes Haupt.

Ach, mein Herz gleicht dieser Wildnis,
und der Baum, den ich dort schau'
sommergrün, das ist dein Bildnis,
vielgeliebte schöne Frau.

Boires de tardor tardana, i somnis freds,
omplen muntanyes i valls;
la tempesta ja esfulla els arbres,
que es mostren fantasmalment pelats.

Només un únic, tristament silenciós,
un sol arbre resta amb les seves fulles,
i, com humit per llàgrimes de melangia,
sacseja el seu cap verd.

Ai, el meu cor és com aquest desert,
i l’arbre que veig allà,
verd d’estiu, és la teva imatge,
bella dona molt estimada.
