Spätherbstnebel, kalte Träume,
überfloren Berg und Tal,
Sturm entblättert schon die Bäume,
und sie schaun gespenstig kahl.

Nur ein einz'ger, traurig schweigsam
einz'ger Baum steht unentlaubt,
feucht von Wehmutstränen gleichsam,
schüttelt er sein grünes Haupt.

Ach, mein Herz gleicht dieser Wildnis,
und der Baum, den ich dort schau'
sommergrün, das ist dein Bildnis,
vielgeliebte schöne Frau.

Boira de final de tardor, somnis àlgids,
cobreixen les muntanyes i les valls,
la tempesta ja esfulla els arbres,
que es mostren espectrals i pelats.

Tan sols un únic, trist i silent,
un únic arbre resta encara amb les fulles,
sembla rellent de llàgrimes de nostàlgia,
i belluga la seva verda capçada.

Ai, el meu cor és com aquesta forest,
i l’arbre, el que allà he vist,
verd com a l’estiu, és la teva imatge,
estimadíssima, formosa dona.
