Goldene Nacht

Waldeinsamkeit umschloss mein Haus
und der Südwind flüsterte sacht, 
ich stand am Fenster und sah hinaus,
sah in die goldene Nacht,
in die Nacht, die golden von Mondesglanz,
die schwer von Liedern war --
und ich träumte -- und sah den Myrthenkranz,
und sah dein dunkles Haar.

Und ich träumte, du wärst mein liebes Weib,
von Gott mir angetraut, 
und die Vögel sängens zum Zeitvertreib,
soweit der Himmel blaut.
Die Sterne flammten in leuchtender Zahl --
da hab ich dein gedacht: 
das machte der glühende Mondenstrahl,
das machte die goldene Nacht.
