by Franz Ferdinand, Freiherr von Dingelstedt (1814 - 1881)

Wie es ob dem tiefen Strom
Language: German (Deutsch)
Wie es ob dem tiefen Strom,
Durch den grünen Wald,
Orgelklang in Gottes Dom,
Braust und klingt und schallt!

Echo im stillen Tal
ist im Berge wach,
fern und nah und hundertmal
tönt ihr Atem nach.

Nur wenn ich im süßem Weh
Antwort suchen will,
ist im Tal und auf der Höh'
Echo immer still.

Dann wird keine Stimme wach,
die mir Antwort gibt,
und kein Herz ruft meinem nach -
keines, das mich liebt.
