Ganz wie in deinem Lieblingsbeet
Der Hyazinth.

Meine Lieder kleidet
Ein schweres Rot,
Das deinem seidnen Kleide gleich
Knistert und loht.

Meine schönsten Lieder
Gleichen ganz dir.

Before your door,
They knock and bow:
Will you open for me?

My poems have
A silky sound
Like the rustling of your dress
In the stairwell.

My poems carry
A gentle scent,
Quite like your favourite flowerbed
Of hyacinths.

My poems are clothed
In heavy red
That, like your silk dress,
Crackles and blazes.

My loveliest poems
Are exactly like you.
They stand at your gate and bow:
Will you open for me?
