possibly by Philippe François Nazaire Fabre d'Églantine (1750 - 1794) and possibly by Nicolas-Edme Restif de la Bretonne (1734 - 1806)

Mon cœur soupire
Language: French (Français)
Mon cœur soupire dès l’aurore ;
Le jour, un rien me fait rougir ;
Le soir, mon cœur soupire encore ;
Je sens du mal et du plaisir :
Tout à mon âme te rappelle,
Je jouis de mon erreur :
Ah ! dis-moi, comment on appelle
Ce qui se passe dans mon cœur ?

Je rêve à toi, quand je sommeille ;
Ton nom m’agite, il me saisit :
Je pense à toi, quand je m’éveille ;
Partout ton image me suit :
Tout à mon âme te rappelle ;
Je jouis de mon erreur :
Ah ! dis-moi comment on appelle
Ce qui se passe dans mon cœur ?

Quand tu parles, ta voix touchante,
Dans mes sens porte le plaisir :
Ton aspect me trouble et m’enchante,
Je te cherche et voudrais te fuir :
Tout à mon âme te rappelle.
Je jouis de mon bonheur ;
Ah ! dis-moi comment on appelle
Ce qui se passe dans mon cœur ?

Confirmed with Nicolas-Edme Restif de la Bretonne, La Dernière Aventure d’un homme de quarante-cinq ans, Geneva, 1783. The poem appears as a song text included in a novel, so it is not clear if it is by the author of the novel or if it is an unattributed quotation. The song by Dalvamire attributes the text to Fabre d'Églantine, but we have not yet found corroboration for this attribution. In addition, the first four lines appear in the middle of a longer poem attributed to M. de Saint-Péravi titled "Le Mal d'Amour.
