Que peut-être elle perdit la route 
Puisque je ne vois rien 
Au lointain des quatre chemins
Qui font croix au carrefour du doute. 

Voici venir le souffle froid 
Qui chasse oiseaux, soleil et feuilles, 
Et ramène brouillard et deuil 
Sur mon espoir et sur ma foi : 
Faudra-t-il m'en aller comme un qui n'attend plus
Et s'en retourne, en la nullité de la nuit, 
Vers la maison et vers l'ennui ?

Zweifel

Es ist schon so lange her
Dass sie vielleicht den Weg verlor.
Da ich nichts sehe
In der Ferne vier Wege
Die sich schneiden an der Kreuzung des Zweifels.

Hier kommt der kalte Atem
Der Vögel, Sonne und Blätter vertreibt,
Und Nebel und Trauer zurückbringt
meiner Hoffnung und meinem Glauben:
Muss ich gehen wie einer, der nicht mehr wartet?
Und umkehrt in die Nichtigkeit der Nacht, 
Nach Hause und hin zum Verdruss?
