Wolkenzug und Bäumeflüstern
Dauert heut den ganzen Tag.
Bald im Hellen, bald im Düstern
Rollt verlor'ner Donnerschlag.
Wohl der Vater droben wieder
Ruht und träumt nun auch einmal,
Siehet auf den Oelberg nieder,
In des Kidrons stilles Thal.
Auf der Riesenharf' indessen,
Die das Lied der Schöpfung tönt,
Klimpern Engel holdvermessen,
Daß sie manchmal leise dröhnt.

The scudding of clouds and the whispering of trees
Are lasting the entire day today.
Now in brightness, now in gloom,
Forlorn thunder rolls.
The Father on high must again
Be resting and dreaming for once,
He gazes down upon the Mount of Olives,
Into the quiet valley of Cedron.
Upon the giant harp in the meantime,
The harp that sounds the song of creation,
Angels strum, sweetly audacious,
So that it sometimes quietly vibrates.
