In einem Tal, bei einem Bach, da flog ein bunter Schmetterling; ein Mädchen, das ihn gerne fing, das lief dem bunten Tierchen nach. Es lief dem bunten Tierchen nach; doch unversehn's blieb im Gesträuch sein Fuß verwickelt, und sogleich fiel's arme Mädchen in den Bach! Das arme Mädchen fiel in'n Bach und schrie; gleich lief auf sein Geschrei ein hübscher wackrer Bursch herbei, der zog es eiligst aus dem Bach. Er zog es eiligst aus dem Bach! Das Mädchen nahm, aus Dankbarkeit, ihn mit nach Haus und seit der Zeit läuft's keinem Schmetterling mehr nach!
