Sie wiegten Mondlicht auf ihren Wellen
Und haben goldenen Glanz ins Tal gebracht.

Ich lauschte noch vom Lager ihrem Liede
Und habe lange, lange nachgedacht,
Was sich vor Zeiten alles zugetragen.
Dann haben Träume ganz mit Zagen
Aus weiter Ferne mir dein Bild gebracht.

They let the moonlight play upon their waves
And have brought a golden radiance into the valley.

From my bed, I still listened to their song
And for a long, long time I pondered
What had happened in times long past.
Then dreams, utterly with hesitation,
Brought me your image out of the far distance.
