    Wie spiegelt der See in grüngoldenem Schein!
Die Ruder, sie schaufeln im Takte;
Sie schaufeln Krystall und Edelgestein,
Und überall springen vom Felsen herein
An den Busen dem See Katarakte.

    Die Sonne, sie badet im See sich so gern,
Und wandelt die Wasser in Flammen;
Aufglänzen die Fische von nah und von fern,
Eine jede Woge hat ihren Stern,
Und stürzet beseligt zusammen.
 
    Hier liegt sich's so lieblich im Schiffe gestreckt,
Umgaukelt von flüchtigen Scherzen,
Von Rosen umduftet, von Mädchen geneckt; --
Singt, Holde, und wecket das Echo und weckt
Uns die alte Jugend im Herzen!
