Zwei Wanderer zogen hinaus zum Thor, Zur herrlichen Alpenwelt empor. Der Eine ging, weil's Mode just, Den Andern trieb der Drang in der Brust. Und als daheim nun wieder die Zwei, Da rückt die ganze Sippe herbei, Da wirbelt's von Fragen ohne Zahl: «Was habt ihr gesehn? Erzählt einmal!» Der eine drauf mit Gähnen spricht: "Was wir gesehn? Viel Rares nicht! Ach, Bäume, Wiesen, Bach und Hain, Und blauen Himmel und Sonnenschein!" Der Andere lächelnd dasselbe spricht, Doch leuchtenden Blicks, mit verklärtem Gesicht: "Ei, Bäume, Wiesen, Bach und Hain, Und blauen Himmel und Sonnenschein!"
