Gott und mein Lied
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Gott und mein Lied, die beiden,
Die sind mein Trost und Hort,
Drum bleib' ich bis zum Scheiden
So fröhlich fort und fort.
  Der mir das Lied gegeben,
Ihm geb' ich's froh zurück,
Drum blüht mir fort im Leben
So reiches, süßes Glück!

  Und kommt das Leid gegangen,
Vertrau' ich meinem Gott,
Der, will mir graun und bangen,
Die Höll' auch macht zu Spott;
  Der niemals noch gelogen,
Wie lang die Nacht gewährt,
Mir unterm Friedensbogen
Das schönste Lied bescheert!

Gott und mein Lied, die beiden,
Das soll mein Wahlspruch sein,
Und muß von hier ich scheiden,
Auch dort noch sind sie mein!
  Muß Alles einst verwehen,
Verrückt mir Nichts mein Ziel,
Vor Gottes Thron zu stehen
Mit meinem Harfenspiel.

God and my song
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
God and my song, the two of them
Are my comfort and my refuge,
Therefore, until parting, I remain
So joyful on and on.
To Him who gave me the song,
I gladly give it back,
Therefore, such abundant, sweet happiness
Continues to blossom for me in life!

  And when sorrow comes along,
I trust in my God,
Who, if I become fearful and anxious,
Can even make hell into a byword;
  He who never yet deceived,
Who however long the night lasted,
Under the rainbow of peace
Has bestowed upon me the most beautiful song!

God and my song, the two of them,
That shall be my watchword,
And when I must depart from here,
They shall still be mine up yonder!
  If everything should someday vanish,
Nothing shall move my goal,
To stand before God's throne
With the music of my harp.
