Nu vågne alle Guds fugle små,
de flyve fra reden og sjunge. 
De prise Vorherre, så godt de formå:
De takke for livet og lyset med fløjtende tunge. 

Nu kvidrer svalen på kirketag,
og spurven ved menneskers huse. 
De synge: God morgen! De synge: God dag! 
De synge: Guds fred! Gud ske lov! Og i luften hensuse. 

Småfuglens sang Vorherre forstår,
han kender hver sjæl i sit rige. 
De fattiges lovsang han ikke forsmår,
han ser, hvad de målløse skabninger alle vil sige. 

Os ser du også, du kære Gud! 
du hører vor røst i din himmel. 
Når fuglene flagre af rederne ud,
du hører småbørnenes pris i din jublende vrimmel.
