Nachtgedanken
 (Sung text for setting by V. Blodek)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Stille Nacht, du schwebst hernieder,
Senkest dich auf Tal und Flur,
Und dein dunkeles Gefieder
Fächelt Ruhe der Natur;
Nur die Geister haben Schmerzen,
Von des Lebens Sturm bewegt,
Schlafen nicht im wunden Herzen,
Wachen, bis es nicht mehr schlägt.

Schweiget, schweiget, ihr Gesänge,
Sanfter Nachhall einst'ger Lust,
Tönet nicht wie Harfenklänge
In der Schmerz-erfüllten Brust;
Fliehet, farbenreiche Bilder,
Aus des Busens tiefsten Raum,
Nein, entflieht nicht, aber milder
Zeigt euch im Erinnrungstraum.

Composition:

    Set to music by Vilém (Wilhelm) Blodek (1834 - 1874), "Nachtgedanken", published 1909, from Liebeslieder, no. 13

Text Authorship:

  • by Ernst Friedrich Georg Vincke (1811 - 1875), "Nachtgedanken", Magdeburg: in der Creutz'schen Buchhandlung, first published 1840
